This money tends to end up hosted in rich countries. These host states now have a duty to block, trace, freeze, and seize these illicit funds and hand them back to the countries from which they were stolen. In The Despot's Guide to Wealth Management, J. C. Sharman asks how this anti-kleptocracy regime came about, how well it is working, and how it could work better. Although there have been some real achievements, the international campaign against grand corruption has run into major obstacles. The vested interests of banks, lawyers, and even law enforcement often favor turning a blind eye to foreign corruption proceeds. Recovering and returning looted assets is a long, complicated, and expensive process.

Sharman used a private investigator, participated in and observed anti-corruption policy, and conducted more than a hundred interviews with key players. He also draws on various journalistic exposés, whistle-blower accounts, and government investigations to inform his comparison of the anti-kleptocracy records of the United States, Britain, Switzerland, and Australia. Sharman calls for better policing, preventative measures, and use of gatekeepers like bankers, lawyers, and real estate agents. He also recommends giving nongovernmental organizations and for-profit firms more scope to independently investigate corruption and seize stolen assets.

About the Author

JACK D. MATTINGLY has 50 years experience analyzing and designing propulsion and thermodynamic systems. After serving the majority of his career teaching at the Air Force Academy and Air Force Institute of Technology he retired from active duty in 1989 and joined the faculty of Seattle University, retiring in 2000 as professor emeritus in Mechanical Engineering. He has since focused on writing, teaching short courses, and consulting. He is a co-author of Aircraft Engine Design, winner of the AIAA Summerfield Book Award. KEITH M. BOYER is Vice President for Propulsion for Practical Aeronautics, Inc., retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 2012 after 32 years of active-duty service. He has 35 years experience including flight line and back shop maintenance and engine expertise in research and development, test and analysis, sustainment, systems engineering, logistics, supply chain, and multinational requirements management. He served on the faculty for 10 years in the Air Force Academy s Department of Aeronautics, was Associate Dean for Students at the Air Force Institute of Technology, and was an adjunct faculty member for the Air Force Test Pilot School.

This book is an excellent resource for engaged couples/couples on the path to engagement in the near future.My boyfriend and I are planning to be engaged by spring, and we wanted to find a book to go through to get us covering all of the bases. We're not religious, and it was sort of difficult to find a marriage prep book that wasn't faith-based. This one seemed like a good fit, so I tried it out, and I'm so glad I did.It takes some of the usual topics -- like finances, children, religion, family dynamics etc -- but goes into great detail, thinking of hypothetical scenarios and requiring each person to name their expectations, intentions, desires going forward. My almost fiance and I have had very engaging conversations, and I feel more prepared for marriage as a result of this book. The questions tend to be time-consuming, so we typically only do one or two chapters at a time. 1001 questions, some requiring more thought and others more straightforward, is an awesome resource for couples looking to take the next step. I highly recommend it.

This book is FANTASTIC and I buy a copy for any friend who is thinking about getting engaged. Some folks complained this book has logical basic questions you should know about your spouse before agreeing to walk down the aisle - but that's exactly the point! I really do think far too many people getting married nowadays assume once they know the very basics (Do you want kids? Do you want to be rich? Will we share a bank account?) and they love the person, they're set! I think the "logical" things aren't all that common anymore and there is nothing to hurt in prepping yourself and your future spouse as much as possible beforehand - you WANT to stay together right? So take some time and go through this. My fiancé and I sat around, going through the questions together, a few day while lounging about after work - it's not hard and can even be fun. We knew far more than it seems many couples knew going into the book, but still found good topics to cover! And we've been happily married for six years.This book walks couples through a lot of the LOGICAL (sorry, no, they're not all fun and whimsy - but fun and whimsy doesn't build a marriage, those are the perks!), solid questions you should cover before committing your life to someone. Beyond having kids, it walks through what you might each do in a situation during their upbringing. On finances, you go from basics about banking to taxes to how to handle situations regarding layoffs and other woes. From defining each version of "cheating" (this really does vary person to person, oddly enough, as so many couples forget about lines coworkers may try to cross or emotional cheating), etc.If you can't sit down and go through this book with the person you plan to marry because you find it boring or the questions obsolete - frankly, you probably shouldn't be getting married. You'll only gain healthy insight and good, open discussions on any possible disagreements - no losses, here. And if you make it to the very end of the book and find that you gained nothing new and had already come to agreement on every single question posed, then be GLAD you were able to spend $10 to find out that you really DO know what you're in for.

We've had friends hit points in their relationships where they realize they're at an impasse with their partners about major issues (or seemingly minor points in them that become major) like finances, family, careers, or religion, and say that they wish they had talked about it before it became major. It seems so much more difficult to discuss these things once they become points of contention, and we hoped to try to avoid at least some of that by discussing what we can early on.We didn't go through every single question in this book – some we had already discussed, for example, and some didn't seem applicable to us – but the sheer variety and depth of the questions was wonderful. Though we'd already talked about a lot of the big ticket items, there were definitely things in here that we hadn't discussed, both in terms of details on those items and other topics we hadn't thought about. The questions also helped to clarify or solidify where we, as a couple (and in some cases as individuals), stand on certain topics, and we find ourselves still referencing what we discussed using the questions in this book when making decisions years later.Of course one book or set of conversations won't address every possible thing that could come up in the course of a lifetime, of course some impasses are going to be reached no matter how much you talk, and of course marriage involves an ongoing conversation, but something like this can help with the start.

Earl Hunt is Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington, where he has been a faculty member since 1966. He has also taught at Yale University, the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Sydney, Australia. His other books include Concept Learning (1962), Experiments in Induction (1966), Artificial Intelligence (1975), Will We Be Smart Enough? (1995), Thoughts on Thought (2002), and The Mathematics of Behavior (2007). I will admit I am no Mechanic. But, that is exactly why this book comes in handy. This book has great "General" information to help take apart and replace many components. With that being said, if you have experience working on/with vehicles, you probably will not gain a whole lot out of a book like this. I can see how someone with considerable knowledge with mechanics wouldn't gain much from owning this piece of information. However, for someone like me, with very limited experience, this definitely has served as a resource. That and fullsizebronco.com, haha.

I needed information for dual fuel tank systems and this book had it

I have a Chilton's manual that I bought when I had my old mustang. It covers '87-93 Mustangs and was an INVALUABLE resource when I had that car. In fact, I continue to reference it frequently when I'm doing work on my '87 Thunderbird, because it's based off the same chassis and many things are similar. I bought a Hayne's manual for my Thunderbird and I hated it, so I went back to the Chilton's for most reference.So, when I bought my '94 F-250 diesel, I figured a Chilton's would be a good investment.Boy was I wrong!For starters, my truck is a 7.3L IDI Turbo diesel, which was produced in '93 and '94. There is not even a MENTION of this engine in this book. It jumps straight from the naturally aspirated 6.9/7.3 IDI, to the Powerstroke. Now, granted, the Turbo IDI is pretty similar to the n/a IDI, but some mention of the turbo system or something would have been nice.From there it gets worse. I can't believe the amount of detail that is nowhere to be found in this book. As another reviewer mentioned, this thing completely omits anything about the fuel filters on the IDI engines. Then, later on in the book, it skips over many other topics. It describes how to remove the instrument cluster, but doesn't specify which model year it's talking about, and includes several unnecessary steps while leaving out necessary ones (I removed mine with help from some folks on a message board). No instructions on how to remove the headlights or marker lights are present anywhere in this book...only how to change the headlight bulbs. The exploded assembly diagram for the 4WD front suspension is smaller than a 3x5 index card and it's impossible to make out any detail. Things like this should have at least half a page dedicated to them! And that's just what came across for things I've been trying to do on my truck so far.I don't even understand how you could produce a repair manual that was lacking this many important details.

I bought this as a reference manual on a resto-modification of a truck I've inherited. This is a good basic overview of one of America's most produced and popular vehicles. This manual is nothing short of a bible when it comes to F-150's. Like all chilton manual's, the book is divided into chapter sections that cover specific vehicle systems. it covers a variety of set ups (straight 6, V8's, 2WD, 4WD). Some things are better explained than the others, but on the whole, this is an excellent book to work on your vehicle with. Pictures help with showing the reader and technician the parts and procedures in question. Again some things are better than others. On the whole I would recommend this book

I purchased this book to help with repairs to my truck. However I feel its a waste of money. I have tried looking up two issues that I have, one with fuel system and one with air bag sensors, and found no help from this book. This book covers way to many years, and types of trucks such as diesel trucks, fuel injected gas trucks, carburetor gas trucks, etc... You think your getting a thick book full of information about your truck, but half or more of the information will most likely not have anything to do with your vehicle. When you do find something that covers your vehicle, the information is vague and doesn't show enough step by step instruction on how to do. Most people using this book will need detailed instructions. If they know what they are doing, they would not need the book. I wish I had never wasted my money on this item and as its wrapped in clear plastic, once you open it and find you don't like it, its then used and not returnable. Very disappointing item to me.

I'm sure this is really helpful to mechanics, but for me just beginning to learn about repairs ... This is not very helpful as I need more instructions. I will be keeping this because I will be learning more along the way with the help of friends who know more about repairs than I do.

The book was good, but have had better, more detailed. Some of the photo's were lacking. Didn't compliment Chilton's good name... Then I found out my husband already had one, but now I have one for my truck. I was going to give three stars, but due to the nature of the book, I was generous.

Has some stuff that Haynes doesn't have in it, but I prefer Haynes more honestly

A lot of the book is self explanatory but the few times I was stumped, this book payed for itself. I use my truck daily so don't have the convenience of waiting to figure things out. The detailed diagrams and explanations were great.
